Spring Indeed
I have dirt under my fingernails and there's the smell of tomato plants in my office (which doubles as the potting room, as well as a semi-pantry and the location of our wine refrigerator [which came with the house], and for one stereo, and a set of bookshelves, and all in a room that's perhaps six feet by ten feet). So it must be spring: I'm transplanting tomatoes.
As previously mentioned, I'm trying a salsa garden this year (among other things). So a few weeks ago I started seeds for tomatoes, tomatilloes, and some peppers. I also have seeds that will be direct-planted for cilantro, basil, and sunflowers (obviously not all for salsa). Everything's in our plant cage (wooden structure with a timer light) in the basement, with a couple of heating pads providing the warmth for germination.

Tomatoes were the first to germinate.

But as of today, everything's coming up nicely.

And so I transplanted the tomatoes to bigger pots.
Other signs of spring:

Ella and her friend Nate playing in the yard.

Liam playing basketball in the yard.

I'm finally understanding why one might intentionally live in a place with the winter we just finished. This is a really lovely spring.
